Fender Squire Jazz bass

The bass is the same as described below but in Black with white scratchplate. Lovely condition see pics of neck (it is virtually unplayed) and offers a great playing bass for a fraction of the cost of the American Fender Jazz bass. Plays like a dream.

Squier Standard Jazz Bass Antique Sunburst
Squier Standard Jazz Bass

The Squier Standard Jazz Bass has many features found on the original Fender version but at a much lower cost. The Standard version is a step above the Affinity version. One of the more notable features is the offset body which is the same size and shape as the original. The neck profile is the same as well - tapered and ultra slim. This is an excellent bass for the beginner or intermediate player. Also it's not just for Jazz, ask Geddy Lee of Rush. A great all around bass for any style of music.

The body is made of Agathis and is available with a polyurethane finish in Candy Apple Red, Satin Pewter Metallic, Black Metallic, and Walnut Satin. The pickguard color and ply depends upon the color of the body and comes in 3-ply parchment, 4-ply Tortoise Shell, 3-ply Black, or single-ply matte black. The body is the same size and shape as the Fender version. The standard bridge has 4 saddles and is adjustable.

The 34 inch scale length neck is made of maple and has a rosewood fretboard and polyurethane finish. The 'C' shape neck profile means it's thinner and easier to play than say that of the precision. The radius of the neck also lends to its playability being 9.5 inches. The neck has 20 medium jumbo frets with dot position markers. The nut width is also narrow at 1.5 inches to match its slimmer profile. The tuners are the standard open geared tuners that are very good and keep the bass in tune.

The pickups and electronics include two single coil Jazz Bass pickups. There are two volume controls, one for each pickup, and a tone control. The knobs are knurled chrome dome and look great. The overall wiring and pickups are very simple and reliable.

Many features found in this Squier version where present in the original Fender when it was introduced in 1960. Unlike the Precision bass which was made to replace the acoustic double bass, the Jazz was created to offer a wider array of sound possibilities with better proportioned neck. The Jazz bass was made popular by Jaco Pastorius with his fluid guitar like playing and tone. The Squier versions offer the same basic features as the Fender one but at a lower cost.

The body is similar to that of the Fender Jazzmaster guitar with its offset shape. The neck is also has a greater taper from the body to the nut. Because of this many bass players find it easier to play. The Jazz bass also has two single coil pickups which are placed at the bridge and mid positions. The bridge neck allows for a great amount of treble to be produced. It’s known for a thinner sound than the Precision mainly because of the pickup position; the Precision's pickup is also a single coil.
