Jamie Possum Knitting Patterns

Jamie Possum Knitting Patterns are designed specifically with Possum Plus and Possum Paints in mind. They exploit the lightness and drape of possum yarn particularly well. As our range of knitting yarns grows in weight and colour, our patterns will grow with it.

Using a pattern from another publisher

It is perfectly possible to use possum yarns with patterns designed for other yarns. However, if you do use a pattern designed for another yarn, remember that  you will most commonly require less possum than you did for the yarn for which your pattern was designed, and you should adjust your order of Possum Plus or Possum Paints to take account of this.

For information on how to calculate how much Possum Plus or Possum Paints is required to service another publisher's pattern please refer to our Knitting Pattern section on this site.

Bush HarvestBush Harvest
Bush Harvest evokes the richness of nature’s larder at harvest time. The warmer seasons in Oceania allow more harvests each year than are common in the Northern Hemisphere and this largesse is reflected in a colour palatte which ranges from rich berry reds to succulent plummy purples.

Bush in BloomBush in Bloom
Bush in Bloom brings to mind the burst of colour brought forth by the Southern spring; from the yellows and oranges of Australian citrus groves to the vibrant vineyards of Auckland. The hues reflect this, ranging as they do through peach, pink, purple, lilac, blue and gold.

GeckoGecko
We met our first Gecko (or chick chack as they are known throughout the South Pacific) hiding behind a picture on the wall of our Samoan bedroom. From there it would venture out to harvest the insects of the Pacific night, leaving us to enjoy our slumbers bite free. Geckos, whose name derives from the Malay Gecoq, are one of nature’s greatest wonders. Their ability to adhere to any surface, no matter how smooth, is legendary. Understanding just how they do it is leading to amazing new developments in technologies as far apart as field dressings, prosthetic limbs and space walks. Geckos come in a wide variety of greens to match the subtle shading of their jungle home. So does our Gecko.

Kon-TikiKon-Tiki
Kon-Tiki is inspired by the colours of Australasian woodlands rich in Teak, Southern Oak and Kauri, and is named after the Sun God whose protection was offered to those first explorers who explored and conquered the islands of Polynesia, Micronesia and Australasia over three thousand years, and who voyaged in open craft made from these woods. The autumnal tones range from a bright chestnut through dark brown to charcoal and deep purple.

MoondanceMoondance
With a name like Moondance you might expect this yarn to be dark and sombre, but in fact nothing could be further from the truth. It is best thought of as Waitomo seen on a moonlit night; hence its name. Not as bright as its sister yarn, it nevertheless still explodes with rich purples, leafy greens, sandy yellows, bright pinks and subdued lilacs.

MuriwaiMuriwai
Think of Muriwai Beach in North Island, New Zealand and this 60 kilometre strip of black sand conjures up images of Jane Campion’s Piano, Lucy Lawless’s Xena: Warrior Princess or of the perfect surfing wave. But to those lucky enough to walk it’s seemingly endless shoreline, it speaks of warm, clear Pacific waters whose dazzling blues give new meaning to the colour. Our Muriwai reflects the awesome depths of the Pacific and its crystal shallows.

WaitomoWaitomo
The hundreds of caves which make up the Waitomo labyrinth are among the most spectacular in the world. They include diverse wonders from a cavern large enough to hold operatic and chamber performances to silent natural waterways accessible only by tiny boat and illuminated by the light of thousands of glowworms; an ancient limestone landscape fringed by tightly coiled fronds of koru. Our Waitomo celebrates this diversity in a splash of colours which includes the variegated greens, sandy yellows, bright pinks and subdued lilacs of the original.

WellingtonWellington
Wellington was created in response to a customer request for a more muted, darker mix of colours. With shades of grey and dark overtones of blue it brings to mind the urban cityscape of of down town Wellington, New Zealand's second largest city and its seat of government; the city of Te Papa, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Beehive and discrete restaurants where politics is on everyone's lips.
