This design features birds, strawberries and flowers, recreates one of William Morris's best-known designs in the Arts & Crafts period entitled 'Strawberry Thief' (designed Britain,1883 © Victoria and Albert Museum V&A: T.586-1919). Despite the fact that the original 1883 design was one of Morris & Co's most expensive printed furnishings, it became a firm favourite with clients. He took the idea from the thrushes which frequently stole the strawberries in the kitchen garden of this countryside home, Kelmscott Manor, in Oxfordshire.
