7pm - 8.30pm
£35 (£30 for Friends) to include a glass of wine
A violin and piano recital in honour of the great Victorian violinist Joachim to coincide with the exhibition ‘G.F. Watts: Hall of Fame’ which includes a portrait of the musician.
The programme for the evening will be:
Beethoven: Sonata No. 5 in F “Spring” and Adelaide (arranged for violin and piano)
Joachim: Romance in B flat major
Dietrich/Schumann/Brahms: FAE Sonata
Both Beethoven works were performed by Joachim at Limnerslease (Watts’s home in Compton) and the FAE Sonata, a collaboration between Schumann, Brahms, and Albert Dietrich, was written for Joachim and is based on the initials of his motto, Frei aber Einsam (free but alone).
The performers are two of Ireland’s most distinguished musicians, Belfast-born sisters Fionnuala (violin) and Una Hunt (piano).
